2019 Jam
About the 2019 Jam:
The 2019 Jam took place Friday, January 25th to Sunday, January 27th in the Brown School of Business, rooms SB 101, 102, and SB 306. The prompt was "Home." The semester hadn't started yet, so we had 5 participants and about 6 guests. The participants decided to mostly work on their own, but helped each other as needed. In the end, they produced 3 games. The game "Disconnected" was developed on Unity where it explored the sense of home as it being from your own perspective and body and what happens when that is disconnected. It made creative use of this theme through dialogue and an interesting platform-based world. "Built for Love", a story-based game built on Twine, explored the idea of another
person being your home. In this touching, funny, yet heart-wrenching story, players must decide to try and replace their loved one with an android, or move on. Finally in "Audio City," the player helps a blind character navigate their way home from an unfamiliar
place via sound recognition, exploring the sounds we associate with our neighborhood or home.
Most of our participants were returning from previous years experience, excited to make the out-of-semester trip to participate in the jam. But, we had
two new participants as well, one of which programmed her entire game on Scratch. As always, participants worked together, took advantage of the weekend to learn, and created some fun and interesting games, each playable for our Sunday presentation.
